MailRoam Overview

This Windows proxy provides a way for users to roam among multiple networks without having to repeatedly reconfigure their email clients.

As defense against spammers who abuse third-party relays and/or send junk email directly to their recipients, many ISPs are closing their networks to outbound email except through their own servers. Further, when ISPs secure their servers from unauthorized third-party relay, they often also prevent roaming users from utilizing their servers from other networks. All of this adds up to great inconvenience to the roaming user.

These trends lead roaming users to send mail via the current local SMTP server, through whichever ISP you are actually connected. Normally, this would mean reconfiguring your mail client every time you roam to a different network. MailRoam makes this much easier by allowing you to switch between providers with a few mouse clicks, or even automatically.
